Just back from Laurent Garnier @ Soundbar. It's the first time I've been out specifically to see a DJ in a long while and he didn't disappoint. From house to techno to micro to electro to breaks to industrial to rock'n'roll, he fused so many disparate styles so seamlessly it was mindblowing at times. It's not often you here a track sequence like: The Prodigy - "Out of Space" (remix) - The Rapture "House of Jealous Lovers" (remix) - The White Stripes "7 Nation Army" (remix) - a Nitzer Ebb remix - Nirvana "Lithium" MIXED together.

There's only one word for that: retarded.

He also played a Stone Roses remix, a New Order remix and tons of stuff I've never heard before but am gonna have to track down now...

The only downside of the night was forgetting my earplugs. It was loud in there and my ears are paying for it now.

I'm done with weekday shows for awhile. Besides feeling ubercrappy today, I'm still pissed that I completely hit the wall around 12:30 (just as LCD Soundsystem was about halfway through "Losing My Edge") and had to head home as I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Regardless, LCD was even better than I expected and it was great running into a bunch of random people I wasn't expecting to see there.

Perhaps it's time to revive that speed habit I left behind eight years ago. At least then I'll be able to stay up till 1am.

From time to time I find myself playing a song that I'm currently infatuated with repeatedly and finding myself getting sadder with each listen. I love making music and think I have a knack for creating catchy songs that are easy to like. What I don't think I have is that knack for creating a song that somebody is going to passionately love.

The easiest way to sum up the weekend would be to list all the things I missed out on due to being the sickest I've been in years.

1. Sold out Squarepusher show on Friday night. (I guess somebody was ecstatic that they got my ticket).
2. DJing the midnight slot at B's party that was so ridiculously crazy she shut it down at 1:30.
3. Sunday lunch with my Grandmother.
4. The anti-Easter party & Sopranos @ J&W's.
5. Getting anything done music wise.

I'm still feeling pretty lousy but double K sent me off with a bag full of drugs, vitamins and other stuff to make me feel better and (hopefully) get through the day. This is the first time in years I've had a g-friend while being sick and I had forgotten how nice it is to have somebody there to pamper you instead of the usual roommate telling you to "stay the fuck away from me sick-boy."

Ok, back to the mess that is our new and improved network. Hopefully my PST file will show up by the end of today, life here would become unbearable if that was to be lost.

Why have I never been turned onto early Afghan Whigs before? People who discounted them cuz all they heard was Gentleman (like me), should give Big Top Halloween a listen. It's quite good and punk enough to make you want to go get another pair of Chuck Taylors.

Right now I'm listening to Congregation which I don't like nearly as much. It sounds like a Tom Petty record. But without the hooks. Especially the hook from the bridge from the song "Learning to Fly."

Saturday I went to this huge dog show at McCormick center with KK. I'm not a pet person and thought the entire thing was a bit boring, but those damn Shiba Inu's were frickin' adorable.

The other entertaining part was ridiculing the dogs trying to get through the obstacle course and mocking their overweight owners. Seeing 300+ lbs people trying to keep up with these fit dogs was hysterical.

It is Saturday afternoon and I'm cleaning my apartment as Stryper's To Hell With the Devil is playing in the background. Not going to the show with stakk a couple months ago was the dumbest thing I've ever done. This album is the most amazing thing I've heard in the past week.

It's been awhile since I've had the urge to post, but this site has to be shared with as many people as possible. The movie of the audition process is hysterical.

Anyways, the past weekend was another slow, relaxing one. Friday I finished watching season four of The Sopranos, Saturday afternoon was spent recording guitar tracks for the new song "Suck U Dry" and Saturday night was spent with double k seeing Big Fish, a total return to form for Burton. Sunday........oh, Sunday I did a rough mix of "Suck U Dry" with the new guitars and then headed over to Jason and Julia's for the Superbowl. As always, the game was secondary to everything else we were doing.

BTW, don't listen to Spice. The place to be this Friday is Neo.

So after the absolutely lovely day I had at work yesterday I finally decided to get off my ass and mail out the first batch of demos. 20 are currently on their way to record labels, friends, and media sources worldwide. I'm terrified that I'm gonna be completely rejected by all and just as terrified that there will be interest in it and I'll have to start making some tough decisions over the next couple months.

We shall wait and see.

I participated in a focus study on Resident Evil last night and spoke with a guy in my group that was signed up to 15 (yes FIFTEEN) different agencies. He says he's averaging about one group every two weeks. I'm gonna have to start looking into signing up for more cuz this is some of the easiest money I've ever made.

I'm almost done with Middlesex and really don't want it to end. It's one of the best reads I've had in a long time.

So I was drunk and DJing at the 7th Annual Fried Chicken Social on Saturday and completely missed the fact that Ira Glass was there. It's good I didn't get to meet him cuz slamming Jose Cuervo from the bottle would have left me with nothing intelligible to say.

Drunk-meter: I sliced my finger open earlier in the night while cutting limes and by the time I got home and took the blood-soaked, hastily applied bandaid off I realized I probably should have gotten stitches. Ah well, it's already halfway healed now.

I got about 45 minutes of Zoocube in tonight (60K high score so far) before my roommate came back from his trip to Toronto. It was excellent to see him for the first time in over a week and he had some funny-ass stories to share, the best one being the pilot saying in an overly sarcastic voice upon arrival in Toronto "apparently all of United's crew went home and we have no gate to land in."

Finished Enter the Matrix in record time two nights ago. The game was ok but the included footage made it worthwhile. Stakk handed me Zoocube today and I have a feeling that's going to keep me occupied for quite some time.

Most memorable parts of NYE 2004.
1. Texting everybody in my phonebook "I'm raving! Happy New Year!"
2. Seeing 1000 ravers trying to sing along to "For Those About to Rock..." at midnight but never getting that delayed second part of the chorus right.
3. Watching "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" in the chill-out room with Autechre playing in the background.
4. Finding myself in the middle of a 50+ person mosh-pit during Doormouse's live set.
5. Getting sloppy drunk at 1am, sobering up, and then doing it all over again at 5 in the morning.

Reasons for starting this Blog:

1. I'm slightly buzzed after having one glass of wine with dinner and was laughing my ass off at something Marty wrote and figured, "Why the fuck not?"
2. I never write anymore and every time I try it becomes harder and harder to output whatever is running through my mind.
3. I'm tired of mixing down my band's cover of "Poison" by Alice Cooper.
4. I actually love that song and love the cover I'm working on even more than the original, but really, you can only handle so many hours a day of any given song.
5. Did I say I had a glass of wine with dinner? Oh, I did.
